Protein is certainly a needed component in diets throughout the fall and winter, we are not here to dispute that fact. What we are saying is that with the IST (Indirect Supplementation Technology™) we do protein…differently.
IST is a fundamentally different approach to the traditional, mainstream direct-fed supplements out there. It is better optimizing or squeezing more out of every mouthful, every acre, every bale, every cow, every day. This is a method that is not generally promoted by mainstream supplement/tub companies. We don’t just feed the cow, we also feed the bugs that feed the cow.
IST is disrupting the supplementation industry IN THE FAVOR OF THE RANCHER!
IST helps lower your input costs, increase your efficiency and help boost the profitability of your ranching operation.
Let’s face it. We only have one chance to wean those calves right. We have a lot of stressors impacting those calves, such as:
• transition in diet
• high stress as calves are separated from mama
• challenged immune status
• depressed appetite
We solidly recommend using the Riomax® tubs during the weaning process. The licking action and the strong focus on stimulating digestive performance is essential to a good start in the weaning pen.
The Riomune® yeast is key to overall health as it helps to tie up and flush out the scour-causing bacteria, plus it serves to stimulate the immune response of those calves.
Then with the 100% rumen bypass trace minerals, Riomax® packs a good punch on bolstering the immune status of those calves which in turn helps that calf fight off disease challenges from the inside out.
Riomax®. With only one chance to wean right, ensure you don’t wean without it.
RIOMAX® DEALERS Q & A
with owners Duane & Trevor
A. No. Riomax® works through Dealers whenever possible, however if you are in an area where there is no dealer, or no dealer close enough to you, we will absolutely take care of you and work directly with you. We will never forget who we serve…the rancher!
A. That’s OK! You can call us at 888.762.3299 and talk to our friendly Customer Care Team,
they will help you out as well as direct you to your closest dealer. If there is no dealer within a reasonable distance from you, we will put you through to your territory rep and they will gladly work with you in view of taking care of your needs.
A. If that is the case, first we humbly apologize. Secondly, please give us a call or text and make us aware of the challenges you are having. At the end of the day the rancher is the person we serve. We will absolutely take care of you. We want to be the first to hear about any challenges so we can either work to fix the problem or take care of you ourselves. We are rancher-centric!
A. For now we will take care of you individually, but if you have strong recommendation as to a dealer in your area, please let us know. It is not our focus right now to be setting up a bunch more dealers, yet we will certainly be ready to hear you out!
A. Absolutely yes. This would of course depend on your time and capabilities, as we do look to partner with people who are going to look to promote our product in any given area. We do have some very successful rancher dealers currently as they typically get out and promote the product, they get out and talk to folks, they deliver onto the ranch and they are very caring and progressive and provide a wonderful experience to the end-user. Each case will be looked at in it’s own merits. We are not exactly looking for “dealers” who just use it for their own use.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED:
Saw a Rio ad with these bullet points
• Highly Concentrated • Low Consumption • Low Cost to Feed • Consumption Guarantee
Weaning calves on Rio tubs & grass gave us about 1/4 lb more gain compared to what we were doing before. Calves stay full and healthy.
- Weaning weights are heavier. On a bad year when other people’s calves were weaning off 40-80 lbs lighter than average, our calves on Rio came in at average weight.
- We have improved preg rates on our young cows that we struggled with getting re-bred. Depending on the year we have seen 4-10% improvement. Have 82-87% of cows calve in 30 days.
- The longer that we are on Rio the more content our cattle are. It is nice to see happy cattle because you know that they will perform better, be healthier, gain more weight, breed back and be there for the long haul.
The Rio ad caught my attention so I started making phone calls. I was tired of trying to keep tubs in front of cattle and really liked the low consumption concept. The easier it is to get daily requirements in cattle the quicker they can be out grazing and loafing. Started penciling things out and per cow per day it was the same price or less than competitive products. Then looked into the consumption guarantee and that sealed the deal. We decided to try it on the fence line weaning calves. Significant difference on weight gain per day compared to what we were using. Really liked the results so we implemented Rio on the young cows. Have significantly improved breed back so we are not losing numbers of young cows. So being pleased with these results, we have implemented Rio into the whole program 365 days a year instead of only part time. It was a tough year when we made that move, most people’s calves weaned off significantly lighter than normal. Our calves came in at average weight. 550 lb calves were $1.92 lb = $1,056/head. Those calves that weighed 40 lbs less missed out on $76.80/head! The Nutrizorb® and Esqort® are what make it all come together and work well. By getting nutrients where it needs to be in the cow helps the cow get more out of what it is already getting. Then the cow can do better with actually getting less. Now looking back I wish that we had made the bigger move sooner.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED:
I was looking for something to help with efficiency and help the cows breed back and get good gains on the bulls.
- First full year went from 10% open down to 5% open
- 0.5% - .75% more cows bred each year since
- Consumption – what they say is where they stay
- Scrotal measurement 2-3 cm bigger
- Better semen checking
- Minimum of 30% increase in stocking rates
- Calves weaning 50 lbs heavier
When he got started in 2014, he went out at least once/week to measure the consumption and it was right at 0.23-0.27 on almost all the groups! He said he is so impressed! He said he would have bet money that they would over-consume but they have been right on the money right from the start! The first fall he called in absolutely pumped!!! He said he had 1 open out of 55 heifers!! They consistently ran 8-10% open on them! They had 12 called open out of 165 head of cows and 61% AI conception! It’s just unbelievable! The barrel is the only thing they have changed! He said he looked at the calves and they are about 50# heavier than last year! I am sold on this! You have me hook line and sinker! He ran 125 cows on a rented pasture but this year they have 165 head out there and there is still lots of grass left! That is a 30% increase! In February of 2015, he said he measured the bulls and “The scrotal measurement was a noticeable difference! We averaged 2-3 cm bigger this year with the tubs!” He also said, “We have had heifers cycling WAY earlier than most years!” Also said “We are selling our mineral feeders. Riomax® works so good and it’s so simple to use, I don’t see us ever going away from it!” Fall of 2015 Tom he said he improved even more again on breed up! 4.5% open on 505 cows! Fall of 2016 Tom mentioned “We only had 12 open out of 195 cows, 4 open out of 125 cows, and 7 open on 115 replacement heifers! We just can’t believe what these Riomax® tubs do!” He said his nutritionist said “This is the most complete and highly formulated tub I have ever seen in my 35 years of consulting!” May of 2017, He told them that he had 10% open in 2013 before he used our product, the next year was 5%, the year after that was 4.5%, and the next year he had 3.6% open with 500 cows in a 60-day breeding window. Tom said 4.2% on 600 animals total including heifers on a 60-day breeding window - that’s 120 heifers. Fall 2017 Tom said Bull calves avg weaning weight right at 800lbs and commercial steers were 725 and purebred heifers were about 730lbs. Calving end of Feb. Most calves are March/April with average around April 5th calving. The way it sits right now they will be 3.5% open. Bull sale averages $4,000. Commercial is all NHTC certified. 200 strs last year only had 150lb spread. Ran a D3 drought for 9 weeks this summer and consumption ran 0.20lbs/hd/day. Fall 2019 Tom met with Rio territory rep Tom Dvorak and mentioned the following: “Very happy with the Riomax® tubs. Got an extra 30 calves. That paid for the whole mineral program. He has also had heavier calves and better cow condition. Said it is a no brainer to use Riomax®. Can’t understand why so many people have such a hard time figuring it out when they can see his results and the cost per day is less!

RIOMAX® CUSTOMER SINCE 2012
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED:
We started using Riomax® in the summer of 2012 because of the drought where the grass never greened up. We still had a 92% breed-up!
- Consumption has never gone over 1/3 lb, averages around 1/4 lb/head/day
- Allowed cows to get out and utilize full pasture
- Eliminated caking and helped cows spread out
- Conception rates have been at 97-78% since being on Riomax® as high as 100% on 1st calf heifers
- Weaning weights consistently gone up from 500-510 to 550-580 lbs
- Eliminated creep feed, weaning weights went up, cows go into winter
with much better body score and condition
- Bulls tested great
Fall 2012 - Got everything preg checked - 92% bred up. He was very impressed with the
condition of the cows despite the condition of the forages! Costing was about the 18 cents/day and he was very impressed. Chad said they utilized their forage better, they were really spread out...as a result of using the tubs. Thinking on the numbers, they are in the decision-making phase...It’s Rio or cake, and with the cake I don’t get the enzymes. But cake is $440 per ton, feed 3lbs every other day - 33cents/hd/day. Summer 2013 Chad shared with us the sizes of his pastures - one is 3,500, one is 4,500, one is 6,000 acres...liked tubs vs. cake for keeping cattle distributed. Fall 2013 98% on the cows and 97% on the heifers. January 2014 Chad said he said he has a lot of tubs out to keep them spread out. He said it is way better than cake because they don’t burn that energy coming to the cake truck and they have it available at all times! February 2014 Bob (grandfather) said he thinks it is really working well, cattle are looking really good and he thought it was high priced but it’s not. Cows are staying spread out with the tubs much better than with just cake! Not having to call the cows in so they are not expending that energy. April 2014 He said calving has been going really well and the calves are energetic and healthy. Summer 2014 Jean (grandmother) mentioned she balked at the first couple bills but she can see that from the way that the cows wintered that it sure is worth it! Fall 2014 He had 100% breed up on the heifers
(70 heifers bred up 100% in 75 days) and 98.5% bred up on 450 cows. He couldn’t believe it. Calves were 550lb and they usually are about 510lb. Spring 2015 Semen tested our bulls and the vet was like “Whoa what have you been feeding these bulls…the semen is fantastic!” Fall 2015 600 total head of cows preg tested and only 6 open. 99% breed-up. Chad said the consumption has been so consistent since he started. Spring 2016 He has good strong calves and the cows are cleaning. Fall 2016 He said the calves were 20lbs heavier than the last year, fed no creep and they had no rain all summer. Fall 2017 He is pretty much using it year-round and his breed up is phenomenal, his calving tightness is good, the health is great. Winter 2017 Happy to have quit using creep feed, weaning weights have increased and better utilization of pastures. June 2018 Getting hit up with rain, asked us to delay shipment. Spring 2019 Consumption is low but it has been extremely cold, yet the calves have been jumping up and taking off. He said he had more dries and dead calves this year than he had in a while but had an extreme winter too. Fall 2019 Lance Moats territory rep met with Chad. He talked about why he started in 2012, and what he’s been able to do since then. He’s had a couple of times where he’s hit 100% on his younger cows breed up and 96-98% on their cows.
